About us
Solidarität Europa e.V. is a non-profit-oriented, politically non-partisan association based in Berlin. We bring people of different origins together – through education, encounter and shared engagement.
Purpose of the association
Under § 2 of its statutes, the purpose of the association is to promote education, international understanding and civic engagement in support of charitable purposes within the meaning of the German Fiscal Code (Abgabenordnung). The association aims to strengthen intercultural dialogue, social cohesion and the peaceful coexistence of peoples in Europe and beyond.
In particular, it works to promote equal opportunities, mutual understanding and solidarity between people of different origins through educational work and intercultural encounters.
Why we exist
Berlin is one of the most international cities in Europe: more than a third of its residents have a migration history, and entire districts live in a dozen languages. That diversity is one of the city's strengths – but it does not organise itself. Young people from newcomer families and young people from established families can grow up a street apart and never actually meet.
Solidarität Europa was founded to work on exactly that gap: bringing people of different origins into the same room, giving them something meaningful to do together – and letting understanding grow from there.
Our team
Behind the association stands a founding team that has worked in youth and educational work in the third sector for over fifteen years – in non-governmental organisations in Germany, Slovakia, Hungary and Bulgaria. The team knows the EU programme Erasmus+ from almost every role it offers: as trainers, project managers, group leaders, mentors, volunteers and participants.
This experience is complemented by professional backgrounds in education, research, technology and community work. In addition to the association's working languages – German and English – the team also speaks Russian, Slovak, Arabic, Azerbaijani, Czech and Turkish. In a city like Berlin, a first conversation in someone's own language often decides whether they come back a second time.
Governing bodies
General assembly
The general assembly (Mitgliederversammlung) is the supreme body of the association. It meets at least once a year and decides, among other things, on the election of the board, membership fees and amendments to the statutes.
Board
The board within the meaning of § 26 of the German Civil Code (BGB) consists of at least two persons: the chairperson and the deputy chairperson. The association is represented jointly by two board members. The term of office is two years.
